Time of Use
The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) has established Time-Of-Use rates for customers with smart meters. Time-Of-Use periods will vary depending on the time of day, the day of the week, and the month of the year (summer or winter). When Time-Of-Use pricing is introduced, the combination of a smart meter and a 'smart' price plan means that customer will have an incentive and the ability to control their energy costs by moving usage to off-peak periods (for example running the dishwasher at night) or lowering energy use during peak periods (such as setting the air-conditioning a few degrees warmer during the afternoon).

There are 3 time-of-use periods
** Effective January 29th, 2021, the Time-of-Use price for electricity used is set at the On-peak, Mid-peak and Off-peak rates indicated below. This applies to utilities and unit sub-meter providers for customers on time-of-use pricing. The Ontario government announced that this pricing will be in effect from January 29, 2021 to April 30, 2021. Effective November 1st, customers can also elect to switch to Tier pricing instead of Time-of-Use. Rates for Tier pricing are indicated below.
Due to the COVID-19 province-wide shutdown, the Ontario Government is holding the time-of-use (TOU) prices at 8.5¢/kWh for all electricity used at all hours of every day from January 1 to 28, 2021 inclusively. Residential, Small business and Farm customers on the TOU price plan set under the Ontario Energy Board's Regulated Price Plan will pay that fixed price for the subject period. Please refer to Q&A's here.
* Weekends and holidays are off-peak during both the Winter and Summer periods
